This Health Screening Project has been organized by the Leo Club of KDU PJ. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF), an NGO body, helped in our project by providing their Life Check services. There were 7 members of Life Check team on both days to offer health screening services to the KDU staffs and students. This project started at 9.30a.m and ended at 4.30p.m. This health screening was carried out at the first floor concourse area, KDU College. The venue was fully sponsored by KDU College.

Leo Joshua and Leo Siew Wei helped the Life Check team to set up their tables at the 1st floor of KDU College before the health screening services started. Other Leos came after their 9.00am class to help-out with this project and promote our club’s membership amongst KDU students.

Kidney Project has been chosen as one of our community services as people nowadays are lack of health conscious and we as a club thinks that such project would benefit the public. In this project, we are able to promote awareness and the importance of maintaining good health amongst the public. This health screening package is set at a standard charge of only RM2 per person and diseases such as kidney stones, diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected by doing health screening. An early detection may help to fight against the diseases better.

By conducting this health screening, the students and staffs of KDU are greatly benefited from this project as they will be aware of their current health conditions and it will help them to detect diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure before it is too late. Besides that, they do not have to spend a lot of money to do the same health screening outside which usually cost about RM35. Also, they will be given a health screening report on the tests being done during their one-on-one counseling session provided by the Life Check team. While waiting for their counseling session, the Leos also provided some special counseling for those who were curious with their blood glucose and cholesterol level. The Leos were all feeling very happy as they helped to promote awareness on the importance of health amongst the students and the staffs of KDU College.

We were also very grateful that some of us have detected the problems we had not realized all this while until we went for this health screening project. Such early detection has enabled us to fight with the problems earlier and thus promising a much higher chance of getting cured. Nevertheless, those who found that they are in perfect health state were encouraged to continue practicing their healthy lifestyle as ‘’Prevention is better than cure’’.

Our kidney project on the 25th and 26th February and 5th March, 2009 has benefited a total of 280 people who went for the health screening. Due to the great response from the students and staffs of KDU College, we are planning to organize this health screening project once every one to two month/s.
