This was the 2nd project of the day. After our trip to the Phyllis Caring Home, Leos Joshua, Gin Ni, Aisha and Farhana met up with Leo Li Wern and Leo Kevin at KDU College. After that, all 6 Leos proceeded to Rumah Impian.

Leo Aisha bought goodies for the children, which included biscuits, milk drinks and popcorns. When we arrived, we were greeted by the enthusiastic kids and we all introduced ourselves. After that, Leos Joshua, Gin Ni and Farhana went to prepare the bottles and the green bean seeds. In the mean time, Leos Li Wern and Kevin were taking pictures of the children while Leo Aisha taught the children a few games.

After the Leos had prepared the bottles, we assembled the children and they each received a container. After that, they were given seeds by the Leos. Next the children were divided into two groups so that the Leos could effectively teach the children how to plant the green beans.

Rumah Impian was chosen after careful deliberation. Our club wanted to visit an orphanage that was not popular so that our efforts would be fully worth while and helpful. The purpose of this project was to teach the children an important part of education that was commonly taught in primary schools, and that is growing green bean plants. This was also aimed at teaching the orphans to ‘’go green’’. We taught them about the process of photosynthesis and its importance. In conjunction with our club’s environmental service project of ‘’going green’’, we have initiated strategic plans to cultivate the habit of ‘’going green’’ amongst all the orphans so that this would be practiced by them in the future and that our environment would be preserved. One of the plans is to teach them how to grow green beans and at the same time, teach them about the importance of green plants on our earth.

The children greatly benefited from this project as they learnt how to plant a seed, thus ensuring that another group of children can grow up and save the environment by planting more trees. The Leos benefited from this as they taught others, and therefore gained an important experience. It was also quite touching to witness these kids in their energetic yet enthusiastic involvement in this project.

At the end of the project, we invited the children one by one, where they each received a bag of popcorn and then had pictures taken to capture the moments we shared together. We concluded by having a big group hug.

LEO CLUB OF KDU PJ

I've come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that's as unique as a fingerprint - and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.
